YOUR FIRST EMBRACE

You don't have to know the steps to belong.

You don't need to be a certain age, wear special shoes or arrive with a partner to start exploring Argentine Tango. Check a school's requirements, bring your curiosity and tell your teacher it's your first time.

01

Find a beginner class

Choose a complete beginner or introductory course. Ask whether you can attend alone and whether the group rotates partners.

02

Choose comfort

Wear something you can move in and secure shoes appropriate for the venue. Ask the teacher before buying dance shoes.

03

Learn a little Argentine Tango language

A class teaches you. A práctica gives you room to work things out. A milonga is a social dance, often organised in sets of songs called tandas.

04

Take it at your pace

Any role is open to any gender. Ask before touching, respect a no, and talk about the embrace that feels comfortable to both of you.

No partner required is not a universal school policy. Confirm the exact class arrangements before booking.

A first milonga does not have to be a leap.

Invitations, the ronda, what to dance and how to choose a welcoming starting point: explore the social side at your pace.
